Did Someone Say Something About The Oddity Faire? Primus Returns to Chicago for First Time Since Sold-Out 2006 Show

Primus is back, and on October 2nd, 2010, the influential alternative icons will return to the Windy City for the first time in nearly four years.

The Les Claypool-led three-piece will take to the road this fall as part of the 2nd Annual Oddity Faire, a musical freak show founded and headlined by the prolific bassist last year. Though this year Les will be at the helm of a band that brought the world Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda, and the internationally-adored theme to South Park.

Primus will be honing their chops in preparation for their first return to the studio since 1999’s Antipop. The new album will be released in 2011. They’ll be joined at the Faire by Portugal, The Man, and Split Lip Rayfield

Primus formed in the late ’80s in Northern California, releasing their first album, Suck On This, in 1989. They signed to Caroline Records and released the now classic Frizzle Fry in 1990. As part of the alternative rock explosion of the ’90s, the band signed to Interscope and gave the world some of the biggest records of the decade, including Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, Pork Soda, Tales From The Punchbowl and The Brown Album, had several Billboard top 10 debuts, and garnered a Grammy nomination.

Tickets for the 17+ show, presented by React Presents and the Congress Theater, and supported by Kingtello Presents, Cold Grums, and Jambase.com go on sale this Saturday, June 19^th, at congresschicago.com for $40. An art-school band that became a new-wave icon almost by accident, Devo started out in the early ’70s with a mind to mock the “de-evolution” that technology set in motion. The group got by on geeky obsessions, robotic dance moves, and clanging, pent-up electronic pop. Devo found an early fan in Brian Eno, who produced the group’s 1978 debut, and subsequent hits like “Whip It” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” (a goofy/great cover of The Rolling Stones song) haven’t left the cultural lexicon ever since. True to its roots, the new Something For Everybody, Devo’s first studio album in 20 years, is the result of a massive satirical marketing campaign: In a tongue-in-cheek effort to give the people what they want, the band used focus groups and public polls to determine the track listing, album artwork, and even the now-blue color of its signature energy domes.

Jack White’s Dead Weather releases Sea of Cowards; Lands at the Congress Theater for biggest Chicago show

On July 30th, 2010, the Dead Weather will return to the Midwest for the first time since back-to-back Chicago sellouts a year ago. They’ll be premiering their second album in a year, Sea of Cowards, produced and released in full at Jack White’s DIY Nashville headquarters, Third Man Records.

White, the mercurial 34-year-old musician and producer whose already fully loaded resume consists of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, is already a prolific artist. Add in the other three members of The Dead Weather — singer-guitarist Mosshart of The Kills, bassist Jack Lawrence of The Greenhornes and The Raconteurs and Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita — and the appeal of their grinding sexiness should surprise no one.

Akron/Family breaks from recording new album to anchor Chicago’s Metronome Celebration alongside Van Ghost, The Right Now, and collection of city’s favorite roots musicians

Chicago, IL - For the first time since lighting up “Best of 2009″ album lists across the blogosphere with Set ‘em Wild, Set ‘em Free, Akron/Family is bringing its equally-legendary live performance back to Chicago. On Sunday, 6/13, Akron/Family will touch on everyone from Fela Kuti and Sly Stone to Neil Young and Bob Weir as they headline the Windy City’s most musically-inclined and affordable street fest, the Metronome Celebration (www.metronomechicago.com).

Thriving on both their need and ability to make the crowd passionately participatory, Akron/Family’s irrepressible energy is ideal for a beer-soaked summer night in Logan Square. The boys from Brooklyn will be supported by Chicago’s finest on Metronome’s “Folk Stage,” curated by the independent team behind the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues fest (www.cbbfestival.com), including….

Van Ghost (6:45pm) - These upstart indie darlings are quickly rising out of Chicago playing a unique blend of Americana & pop rock. Great Divide (1pm) - Despite being the hottest campus band in one of America’s best college towns for tunes (Ann Arbor, MI), they decided to come to Chicago and get cool all over again.

Ben Ripani Music Co. (Noon) - They sound like John Hiatt making out with Son Volt’s mom while M. Ward paints the entire scene. Curious yet?

ON FRIDAY JUNE 25^th 2010 THIEVERY CORPORATION returned to Chicago with their legendary trip hop, downtempo and electronic live set to pleasure over 5,500 fans at the Congress Theater!

“An evening with THIEVERY CORPORATION live” is a journey with Washington, D.C.-based recording artists Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. Their music style mixes elements of dub, acid jazz, Indian classical and Brazilian (such as bossa nova) with a lounge aesthetic and hip-hop influence.  The pair’s self-started Eighteenth Street Lounge Music record label soon emerged on an international level, releasing various 12″ offerings and their debut LP in 1997, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi.  By that time, they had already caught the ears of underground DJ’s around the world and begun to define a new genre of electronic music often described as downtempo, trip hop, chill-out or other varied permutations.  Their songs’ lyrics, diversified in English, Spanish, French, Persian, Portugese, Romanian, and Hindi, along with their often subject of political assertions highlight their global sensibility and international style.   Thievery’s catalogue features vocalists of note such as Loulou, Pam Bicker on earlier works to later higher profile guests like Perry Farrell, David Byrne and Wayne Coyne.  To fully enjoy a night with these ground-breaking sonic explorers, opening up your mind as well as your ears is highly advised.
